I would like to try and contact someone in California? Does anyone know how to access the Telephone Directory online - free of course!

The persons' name is James Y Lawrie, last known address somewhere near El Gato, CA (i think). He was my Dad's best man 50 years ago and they have not been in touch for many years and I would like to make contact.

Anyone in CA have a phone directory who could look it up?
    Thanks
    :)

That's strange, I'm from that area, south a bit and never heard of it. On the map it looks to be in a restricted area of a military base. Went through there on a train and they had to stop until permission came back to cross.
Maybe not now that I look again, looks like the base is to the north of it.

I tried the white pages for that town also Santa Barbara, nothing, I'll keep looking tho.

    Kitty Litter Cake

    This is *no joke*

READ THE INGREDIENTS AND STUFF FIRST AND THEN LOOK AT THE PHOTO...

    TRUST ME...

DON'T LOOK AT THE PHOTO FIRST, BUT LAST...

This is for all you cooks out there looking for something a little different this Halloween.........

WANT TO HAVE FUN AT A PARTY? PREPARE THIS RECIPE! COMPLETELY EDIBLE, BUT YOUR FRIENDS MAY NOT THINK SO!

    CAKE INGREDIENTS:

1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
    1 package white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

    SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"

    1 NEW cat-litter box
    1 NEW cat-litter box liner
    1 NEW pooper scooper

    DIRECTIONS

    1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

    2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

    3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

    4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable an d hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

    RESULT!!!
Thanks to the perseverance of DYAMOND and her secret weapon - I have finally tracked this person down.

Unfortunately, the guy died 2 years ago in Los Gatos, California :( , so the family moved to Portland,Oregon.
I telephoned International Directory enquiries and they could not locate anyone with this name in the USA!! But along comes Dyamond and offer help :)
After suppyling me with listed addresses and telephone numbers for the past few years and endless phone calls, i drew a blank. Then our above named heroine suggest the listing for Oregon? I called and sure enough the guys voice on the answer machine was Scottish :)
His widow called me last night relaying the sad news that James had died in 2005 , BUT she was absolutely delighted to hear from me. She moved from CA to Oregon 2 years ago to be closer to her children.
We have already exchanged email addresses and I have been able to send them pictures of this man from 50 years ago, that the children and grandchildren have never seen.
Its like one of these TV programmes where family or friends are re-united after being out of touch for 50 years :)
Without the help from Dyamond and the suggestions from all MG's I would never have managed to create this bond between 2 families in USA and Scotland.
    Thank You so much :)

Sad news of your dad's friend. But what a wonderful outcome to be able to open communications and provide priceless mementos to that person's family.

Well done Grumbles (thanks to Dyamond for her assistance).

    Cheers

Yes, great news on the contact, Grumbles, albeit, posthumously. At least there can be some sort of 'closure' for you and his family. Good that you made the effort, man. ;)
