Anyone here with some exchange experience

well I have a server with a 30 gig drive and 100 megs free. 17 gigs are being taken up by the MDBDATA folder in exchange, which consists of some databases and it looks like a HUGE amount of log files at 5 megs each. Is it ok to delete these files? I want to make sure before I start deleting play it safe I dont use exchange to often.

You shouldn't delete anything.. You should reconfigure your exchange server with a larger array and move that data store folder to it.

 

Kodo me and you both know Large companies are cheap. If I could get them to buy new Drives I would trust me ive brought it up 100 times. The server just dismounted due to lack of disk space but it was a clean shut down which allowed me to remove some of the files. Their solution is to make some of the big users buy their own server(its a realtor place so they can do that i guess).

I had the owners son convinved for more storage but the owner is gonna kick the heavy users off I guess.

All I can do is recommend.

30 gigs is ALL there is on this thing. blows my mind, dual xeons with 2 gig memory and it has 30 gigs space.

 

poor planning.. any case, I would say save the logs to a backup (CD) and remove ay log older than the current year file date stamp.

 

yeah im waiting for a class to be over cause the server needs to be restarted then im moving them all to a server at a different location over 1.5 mb t-1 yay thatll take all day. problem is ive been begging for a server restart cause of a problem with the tape drive not working but been 2 weeks now and they are paying for it. Those files are supposed to be purged each time a backup is run.
