I was thinking of giving it a go. I would be casual player. I am a bit aprehensive as I know some live their lives through online gaming.

Anyone have any experience? If anyone plays maybe we could arrange a friendly intition game for me?

I played the online version when it first came out for about 1 day. I have a friend in Japan who plays this game all the time (well he used to). Just realise that any cards you buy are just for the online version, if you wish to have the physical cards, you have to pay extra. Essentially, the online cards are cheaper then the physical cards.

One note: If you don't have broadband, don't play, the installer just installs the bare bones. Then, once you are connected to the internet, it downloads a ton of game info.

    Enjoy!

I wouldn't do it. It has nothing at all to do with online gaming. I began playing M:tG back in 1992 when the beta edition cards were being released.

I spent nearly TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS on the game before giving it up in '99. I am one of the fortunate players who managed to recover my money through card sales.

So if your life is so bad that there's no way you could ruin it any further, go ahead and play Magic. It probably won't be too long before you have to have that $50 Berserk in your collection, or a Demonic Tutor for $80. Not too long ago I was selling a few cards on eBay for a friend. At that time I saw that someone was trying to sell their online Magic card colllection for $2,500.

As a hobby its like collecting diamonds. I regret not knowing then what I know now, or I could have left 6 or 8 cartons from beta, Unlimited and Legends sealed, and sell them today for several thosand dollars per carton.

Thanks for the reply. I have heard stories of people really getting wrapped up in everything. Kinda like Tom Hanks in Tunnels and Trolls :) .

However, believe me, I will spend a very small budget and play casually. I was more interested in the online aspect and atmoshpere. Actually, I did join already with a friend. We will be playing each other pretty much exclusively anyway. He lives in Florida, and I live in Maryland. Civ games take just way toooo long!

So far everyone I have met online has been nice. And that is rare. I am sure there are meatheads, but I have yet to meet one. I have not even spent my 10$ voucher yet for joining. Oh well, maybe tonight.

    Thanks for the input.
