This game amazes me! Everything oozes with quality. Even the water edges look good. Steam spewing from an old pipe has heat waves affecting the air around it. The wheels and tires on vehicles are actually round. Water sprays everywhere when hit with a grenade. Trees shadows reach across your weapons. Even the sound in this game is excellent. The story line is decent, but I have not completed it yet to give you the full judgement on it.

Anyone else enjoying this fine game?

:( :( :( :( my friend bought this game for the system i just built him, and it runs great on his 9600XT... so i was considering buying it. But first i thought i'd install it on my system to check the performance on my Geforce4 Ti4600...

as the sad faces give away, i am less than satisfied with the results. the game is playable, but not nearly to the extent i would hope. it doesnt look right with the Medium texture settings, and when I loaded the High textures, i'm already noticing significant glitching (the trees in the distance are empty textures until i am close enough...)

granted that my monitor requires i run the game at 1280x1024x32, I am still sad to realize I may need a new video card before purchasing this game :( and I'm broke too.... grrrreat

to answer you Midget, yes it will run, but it might not look as good as the screenies posted here.... i recommend finding a Demo (if there is one) or borrowing it from a friend (for testing purposes) before you make a purchase

I have a 5900 Ultra and frankly it plays like crap at 1280X1024, the crappy sloppy mouse controls dont help, I am sick of dying over either a glitch, blue textures or cruddy mouse controls. Going to make sure I have latest GeForce drivers, frankly, I really believe Nvidia is treading water and its time to deal with an ATI card.

hmm, so maybe those blue textures arent just mt DX9 troubles?

thats funny too, the latest review I saw on the Gigibyte FX5950-GT placed it above the 9800XT or at least on par with it in every test.... I guess i wont be buying another card until both manufacturers bring out their new series...

The game isn't without it's faults either, mine still crashes about every 5 hoiurs game play. I haven't installed the patch yet though and they may have addressed some issues with the 1.1 patch.

The eyecandy though is some of the best graphics I have seen. I just upgraded to the Logitech Z 680's and the game fully supports Dolby Digital 5.1. I am impressed with it aside from the ocasional glitch.

All in all Cyrtek looks to be making a name for themselves as the game wasn't out a whole week and they had already addressed many isssue. :)

I definetly agree that Crytek is making a name for themselves with this one. The sound is great on my Klipsch, and the graphics on my friends 9600XT blew me away when we upped them to Very High.

it is also the first game I have tried that has ever made my system struggle.... i wish i could magically improve my GF4

This game is GOD IMHO. Yes a few niggles. Very few tho. And I am talking bout gameplay balancing issues as I ran into absolutely no performance issues.

I use a 5950 Ultra 256 Gainward Golden Sample. 56.55 drivers. A7N8X Del rev. 1.04 (1004 bios), 2310 mhz AMD, and 2X512 Kingston DDR400 running at the 400 fsb insync with the cpu. All settings on Very High accept Shadows on low, no AA, Lights on Custom. And Trilinear filtering. FC has definately kicked many a soon to come game to the curb. The best game I ever experienced.

I got a bud with the same system as mine but a 128 meg 9800 Pro. He says the only thing he is seeing that I am not... is frogs, tho I might not have noticed frogs. LOL Our visuals quality and performance however, are identicle.

I updated and am trying again. FYI, this froma GeForce fan, every single test I have ever seen with identical GeForce Vs. ATI test has shown the ATI to always be visually superior. I have everything on, I mean it all. Its a 3 gig Pentium, but hopefully the drivers help. I was out of town on last release and forgot about them.

    Ill let you know.

ok, so i fiddled around, and the game DOES have built in OpenGL support for all of us without DX9 compatible cards. to do so, "go to your far cry directory, open the file system.cfg. Find the line r_driver = direct3d9. Where it says Direct3d9 put OpenGL."

I got the game running without the "blue textures" as MA put it, and even though my card only renders about 30fps in High graphics mode (with vsync enabled and at 1280x1024x32) the game is quite playable.

my friend tested the game on his GeForce4 Ti4200 at 1024x768, and it is also playable with the medium graphic setting.

I am definetly buying this game. I only hope that the Source engine that HalfLife2 runs on will render decently on my vid card as well.

be warned though, if you play the game with OpenGL, there are glitches, for example, the game sometimes refuses to give you a checkpoint, even though it says "saving game". the forums report many people having the same problem, so unless you have a DirectX9 card, you may have some trouble.

trying this game now. Its crushing my p4 3.2 here at work, but only in certain rooms. I am currently on the ship trying to get to the top level. I get out on the top level and immediately get whacked. Can't get away from the helicopter and the 5 guys standing around shooting me..ugh....

oh yeah...fx5200 128mb card latest forceware drivers winxp pro

There IS a demo, although it's over 600 Mb download, plus a second map that's an additional 34 meg IIRC. Demo has no DX9 support and it STILL looks good. Just spent a bit of time last night playing that, and I already like it. A lot. A whole lot.....

I finished the game about 2 weeks ago. ATI all the way. :D
Hey blues, go back down through the ship, and get on the machine gun at the front the boat, to kill the helo, or do the rambo mission like I did, and run towards the guy on the platform, kill him, get up where he was, and use the machine gun there.

So I load the game on my new machine at home, and there is absolutely no hesitation at all during gameplay. This is weird because my machine at home is a 2.8 and machine at work is a 3.2. I have a fx5200 128mb at work and a MSI Ti 4200 128mb video at home. Hmmmmm. And I mean HUGE difference, there is no pause at all in the gameplay.
