Anyone remember how to UNINSTALL SP2?

    Hi All,
I installed sp2 for Windows XP a few hours ago. Obviously I need more RAM to run it. Until I get the RAM, does anyone remember how to uninstall it? (I remember a mention of the uninstall line during installation, but of course I didn't write it down!) It doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs.

    Thanks bunches!

According to this review of it, there SHOULD be a removal tool in Add/Remove Programs.

If you don't show that, you'll likely have to do a "restore" rollback, or possibly a complete format & re-install of Windows as the installation may not have completed, leaving lots of trash and overwritten files all over.

Of get that extra stick of ram, and try installing again, which should then show up in Add/Remove properly.

Just out of curiousity, why did you install it? It's still a pretty raw beta, for test purposes only. Rule of thumb on such testing is to have a GOOD system backup before jumping into it.

G.T., I wish I would have seen that page earlier-- LOL! I never enable system restore so I can't roll it back. I swear it's not in Add/Remove although it should be. I did archive my files, which took up more time, so I could uninstall. Luckily, I made 6 backup CD's with Acronis True Image. :) This will be my first time to use Acronis.

I shouldn't have installed it. I heard such good things about it on Tech TV and read articles that rated it as being such an improvement, so I guess I just got impatient... LOL! You know me. Thanks for answering my call for help G.T, ASUS.

    Take Care,

Well, it will be a good test of Acronis, and good for you for thinking to back up first. That can save a lot of work. :)

Keep in mind that reports on a beta service pack are normally commenting primarily on new functionality and new goodies that are included. There WILL be bugs in it. That's why it's still beta. Only install a beta release if you want to test it out for yourself, NOT to improve your system. For that, wait for the final release.

Microsoft isn't gona help anyone with Sp2, unless they are beta testers.

I know this, because we turn people down all day long looking for help.

Another option to remove it is a repair install.

Thanks Adrynalyne, I guess I had to learn the hard way that I'm not a beta tester! LOL! (What was I thinking...?) BTW, I used Acronis True Image and it passed the test, YAY! :D :D :D Good news for someone like me, who runs into walls alot. :p

    Peace & Take Care,
