Read from a client below... I'm assuming the cursor is a touchpad driver issue. As far as the keyboard/audio issue, I'm clueless. I won't have it in front of me until the weekend. Virus/Malware scan will be first on my list.

'I have a HP ProBook S-Series laptop with Windows 7 operating system. It's about a year and half old. Every once in a while the keyboard will stop working and I will have to shut down the computer to get it to work again. The mouse curser will be on one side of the screen and all of a sudden it will fly across the screen to the other side. When I'm typing, it will skip letters or throw a number in the middle of the word. If I'm playing music it will make a buzz noise every once in a while during the song.'

    Back up the data yesterday.

I've run into more than a few HP models with mobo issues over the years, and this is usually how it starts. Things like the wireless adapter ceasing to function, the keyboard going screwy, and even the mouse doin' the mess around are symptoms of a coming crash.

Or, it may simply be malware or time to "refresh" the OS.

Sounds like fun. I love a good challenge, that's why I like to build refurbs out of e-waste.

I was thinking reformat the second I got the email. Thanks for the response. I'll see if the device manager throws any flags as well. Was just wondering if they could all be related to something else.

Touchpad driver issue: tell the client to go to Control Panel, find the touchpad applet (or if none, then mouse properties) and they can adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad unit there. Alternatively, get an external mouse and disable the touchpad altogether. Same location, or through Device Manager, just make sure they "disable" it and not "uninstall" it, or every time they reboot it'll reinstall itself!
