Sorry if this subject has been covered but I am having a problem searching the forums with this new setup (it's been a while since I have been on Major Geeks).

I would like to copy my Microsoft Edge favorites another Windows 10 PC. Edge does not have an export function like IE and I cannot find a procedure to either backup or export the favorites. If any of you knows how I can get around this shortcoming, I would appreciate your help.

    Thanks

Thanks Eldon. I when to File Explorer and did a search on %LocalAppData% and it didn't find anything. I am sure you will tell me how I can find this location which will leave me with another question.

When I find spartan.edb, do I copy the contents of that file to the same file on my other Windows 10 PC? Sorry if my questions are a bit simple minded.

You're not going to find %LocalAppData%. You need to copy & paste the whole address.
Go to Users and double-click your account. Have a look at this image.

Keep in mind, the spartan.edb you copy will replace the existing spartan.edb. Hopefully an author will come up with a solution to merge two spartan.edb files.

    FYI
If the other PC is running Windows earlier than Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10565, the favorites will be in html format. You can then use this utility to export and import the favorites from one PC to another. You'll hve to use it on both PCs.

Earthling, this sounds like the best way to go. But I am immediately running into a problem. When I go to Settings/Accounts/Sync Your Settings, the Sync Settings slide is turned off but it is also grayed out so I can not turn it on. What am I doing wrong?

You do need to sign in to your computer with a Microsoft account rather than a local account, as the syncing takes place across MS' servers. You are presently signing in with a local account so would need to change that.

I signed in using my Microsoft account, went back to settings/accounts/sync your settings and turned on Sync Settings. I then went to my other PC, signed in using my Microsoft account, checked settings/accounts/sync your settings and Sync Settings was ON. I then went to Microsoft edge clicked on the Hub and my favorites from the other PC were not there.

Am I still missing a step in the process?

In Edge did you go into More > Settings and set Sync there? Also, it does need a little time to sync first time.

SUCCESS! I guess I just needed to wait a bit.

But now I have another dilemma. I had setup, with help from others, both PC's so I would not have to logon on to my Microsoft account every time I turned them on (it's really a pain since I am the only user of both PC's). But, I would guess I will have to continue using the Microsoft account logon to keep this SYNC process going in the future -- correct?

Are there any other items I can SYNC? - I use Microsoft Live Mail so I doubt I can SYNC my contacts which would be wonderful since I have many.

If I have to keep using my Microsoft account logon, is there a faster/better way to logon than typing in my email address/password every time I boot up?

Ah, pleased that worked! I don't use Edge, or Live Mail or MS Sync myself so I'm having to test what I tell you between two Win 10 systems here and so can't answer all those questions right now except the last. Yes, you can use a four digit PIN to sign in to Microsoft - look at your sign-in options and yes, you do have to be signed in for sync to work. I'll have another look at the other sync options to see if we can do anything about your Live Mail contacts. Don't hold your breath though on that one, Live Mail has been superseded in 10.

I can't test any of this but THIS THREAD should help you.

Thanks Earthling, you have been a big help. I'll try the PIN setup for both PC's since I want to keep the SYNC thing going for my favorites.

From what you provided and what I have read elsewhere, it appears the best I can do for my WLM contacts is to perform a contact export/import. This is not as good as a SYNC but I can live with it. Right now, I periodically do a contact Export to my Documents folder so they will be backup using File History. So the next time I'll just make one more export to a thumb drive and Import them on my new PC.

If you can find anything else that I can get out of the SYNC, I would appreciate your input. If not thanks for your help on everything so far. You guys are the best.
