HI All, Maybe you all have been asked this maybe not but here I am in need of a Major Geek.
Like alot out there my pc was infected by the bloddy sasser bug and befor I knew what it was i tried to reinstall WinXP. Is there any way to undo the reinstall so i can get back to my regular start up screen?
As I have tried to get the reinstall to work but it locks up every time looking for a asms file. Very frustrating!! I build computers as a hobbie by software is a sin to me and these viruses are a pain in the @#$.

    Thanks

by reinstall... you mean you tried to install on top of your current XP installation?

thats never the best way to go about things as it complicates a lot.

what start-up screen are you trying to get back to? I'm not exactly sure what you're asking

if i were you, i'd backup all the files you want to keep and do a reformat and Fresh install of Windows XP-- reset everything back to zero.

Yes your first question was what i did . :( I had never tried reinstalling WinXP before so i tried it and now i'm stuck. I am looking for a way to dump the setup reinstall so i can return to my normal start up and remove them bloody sassers from my system so I can burn all my high quality 35mm prints to CD. I need that data and as soon as i recover it i'm going to trash and start over on the hard drive.

hmm, so what is it doing now? do you mean each time you power on its still trying to finish windows setup?

if so, you might be able to bypass it by hitting F8 right after POST. this should bring you to a boot menu, and if you're where I think you are, you should have the option to finish Windows setup, or boot back to your previous XP installation.

if you can get this far, either burn all those prints to CD and start over... or try a Sasser removal tool like this one by symantec.

then get those files off, and I would still recommend a fresh reformat.
