I've seen a few ANZAC (Australia New Zealand Army Corps) Days in my time, and what I find so poignant is the number of Service men and women and/or their relatives marching followed by the celebration of the anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign of the First World Wars - and those in later wars and conflicts remembered and honoured.

The “Last Post” is sounded by a regimental bugler and lines recited from Laurence Binyon’s 1914 poem “For the Fallen”, an ode written for those killed on the Western Front at the battles of Mons and Marne:

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.”
Later, going to the local PUBS or RSL Clubs (Returned and Services League), rubbing shoulders with those who served, sharing your time and listening to their stories, I have personally found to be an honour.

Their spirit, humour and the way they remember their comrades past and present always touches me. It's always a good party afterwards - such a delight to see them enjoy the day and thankful we had/have such wonderful people watch over us, then and now.
