Aol.com redirects to Aol.co.uk!! Proxy in use

Hi all,

i hope someone maybe able to help me with my issue because its doing my head in!!

I am using IE6 and latest ver of firefox.

Basically wats happening here is that everytime i visit aol.com i will ALWAYS get redirected to aol.co.uk

My solution to the problem so i thought is perhaps because i am using a uk ip address, so i got myself a private proxy service and i changed my ip to a US ip. I tested it out on proxydetect.com and it showed that i was coming from the US. Other info it showed is below:

Ok so everything seems to be fine there. I'm using a USA proxied IP. I then clear my cookies, delete files, tick on the option to delete all OFF LINE content, and then clear history.

I close ALL IE windows and then i open a new window. I then type in aol.com and for some unknown reason for the love of me it will NEVER take me aol.com BUT it will always REDIRECT me to aol.co.uk!!! And NO my homepage is NOT aol.co.uk!! And yes i am based in UK.

I've tried it with firefox and it does the same thing!

When i check my Connection settings on IE, tools internet options, connections, lan settings, the box for USE proxy server for LAN is ticked, i click on advance settings in the proxys servers i add my proxy details there. I use SOCKS so i fill in the ip add and port in that box. Even if i try the http option i still get the same result!


NOW while i was messing about with the settings i disabled javascripting and then tried and viola!!! I went staright to aol.com!!

However with javascripting disabled i notice that some boxes on aol do not show and mainly the email sign in box will not show! I go and re enable java scripting and once again i get redirected but this time the boxes are there!

And also this leads me to believe that SOMEHOW with the javascripting running i am NO LONGER anonymous with my US IP as how on earth would it then redirect me to the uk site?? So obviously the scripting must be bypassing something somewhere!

Anyone knows wats going on or am i doing something wrong??
