AOL Dialer still active

every time my boss tries to load something onto his Dell 3000 dimension, just after the 'close all programs before running' stage, he gets this message,
"AOL Dialer is still running"
we have looked everywhere for the bloody thing, but alas we cant find it.
Is there a way to find it, or a program that will, i will be eternally grateful.

ctrl+alt+delete to bring up task manager and see if it's listed in processes, then you can highlight it and end process. May not be a permanent solution though.

What operating system do you have?

Or,

Go to Start, Run and type in msconfig then click OK. (Windows 2000 doesn't have it)

In the Startup tab, see if AOL Dialer or similar is listed, and if it is, uncheck it, then Apply OK and reboot.

 

Insomniac is correct, it is there listed as the AOL Dialer.

Note: There are two other entries listed there, AOL Companion and AOL Spyware scheduler. You can remove those also if the boss doesn't use them.
