AP question

My router went out and had to send it in for service. My question is, i have a 'G' PCI wireless card and 2 wireless notebooks. Can i put the PCI card in the wired desktop and use it as an AP to transmit to the other notebooks?! Like an adhoc mode or something? If so can someone tell me how?! thanks a bunch

 

Nope. Its not an AP.

 

I actually found a company that sells such software that would make it to an AP.

However they charge over $100 for the software.

For the price I can get two better performing hardware APs.

i seriously cant see paying anywhere near that much for that software...The should atleast make the price comparable. But going back: looks like im S-O-L until wednesday..till then...got this 25ft CAT6 cable runnin cross the room for my notebook...but thanks for the info..maybe...i can 'acquire' it http://forums.majorgeeks.com/images/smilies/tongue.gif

there is a way to set up your computer for ad hoc.
you would be able to share things over the network but you wont be able to go to the internet without an AP

 

AWESOME! I just blew the dust off my old P4 system i had sitting around here...put my 'G' pci card in it with the onboard lan being shared-set it up adhoc and *poof* im ON! Infact, im writing this right now on my 'nig rig' ;-)
