Apache Problems...

Hello all!

Today, I am trying to install Apache web server v 2.0.54 on an XP machine. I am using the windows installer (.msi) and configuring setup so that apache will start as a service listening on port 80.

However, before installation completes, I get the error: (OS 10048)Only one usage of each socket address is permitted (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs.

This makes it so that I cannot start apache as a service.

I've tried this with my Local Area Connection disabled (grasping at straws), and I got the same error, only difference being that it couldn't bind to my IP, instead of 0.0.0.0. Understandable.
I would try uninstalling/reinstalling TCP/IP, but there's no uninstall option in the properties of my Local Area Connection.

Anyone have any advice?

 

try "netstat -ano" and see if any other www service is holding up port 80.
If so use task manager to find pid to process.

 

Way ahead of you, I'm afraid. There is no process listening on port 80.

At the moment, I'm going to attempt this using another IP... I'll be back.

 

Well, that was to no avail.
The problem remains.

My next question is: how would I manipulate a socket address? How could I make it so that the socket Apache is trying to use ISN'T in use? From what I can tell on the Apache support boards, this was caused by uninstalling and re-installing apache (which I did), so that leads me to believe that the previous install is what is causing me grief.

Your input is still greatly appreciated. I don't wanna have to do this on a Win98 machine.....
