i recently hooked up what i think is a somewhat old surround sound system, as its quite bulky and has a computer fan on the back of it. it has the simple function to change the loudness of each speaker in relation to the others, but i cant put the subwoofer high enough for my tastes, i want to really feel the rumble. is there some easy solution to this? any help or advice would be appreciated.

are you using this with your computer?

if you are, you should be able to change your sound settings in the control panel (in windows, if you have specific sound software) to give your bass more oomph.
