i have an intel triton tx socket 7 based m/b 2a591 motherboard
award modular bios v4.51pg bios 9/3/97 oem 569wiq05
    i430 tx chip
    8 gb hard drive 128k
i hope this is enough information, if not please let me know what else will help.

this computer will not shut down automatically because there is no apm

will a new driver accomplish this or is it possible to install something to obtain apm on this computer

when you shutdown the computer from the start menu you have to physicaly turn off the computer? you get that its safe to turn off your computer screen?
you need an atx case and compatible motherboard for it to automaticaly turn off on its own.
for other power management options you may have to turn them on in the bios. but with that old of a motherboard there may not be much you can do.
