APoint stops working when Logitech Mouseware is installed

Hello,
I have a Compaq C700 notebook with an ALPS pointing device.
Recently, I acquired a logitech mouse and installed the accompanying Logitech Mouseware drivers. Unfortunately, this seems to have completely disabled the drivers for the pointing device (apoint.exe). The touchpad settings don't show up under 'mouse' in control panel, the touchpad icon no longer appears in the taskbar, the touchpad is also absent from device settings, and clicking on the .exe itself yields no response (but also no error message). In other words, I'm completely at a loss as to what to do. I uninstalled the mouseware, but that didn't fix anything.

Interestingly, the pad still seems to work, minus any special functions. (like scrolling, tapping)

Please help!

Hi

What Windows version you using?

What I would do is pop to Compaq Support and pop in the full model number of your Laptop and get the drivers from them, while you posted C700 there are several varients http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder?query=C700&dest_page=product&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en once found your model click the link then choose your OS, most likely Vista as thats the only one that Compaq list a ALPS driver for, download it and install it to get your extra functions back.

If you have the Driver or a Driver CD that came with the PC look for the ALPS driver on that also.

Funny enough, Windows Update found the problem and reinstalled the drivers when I checked it.
