App running but not there?

Hi all.
I am trying to configure a airPointPRO TOTAL using simple monitor v.2.2 on my laptop which is running Vista.
It installs ok, I try to run it by double clicking the application icon, the cursor does it's 'busy' thing but the app doesn't start.
I try again but it says there is already one instance of simple monitor running.
I opened task manager, no apps running at all.
I took a look in processes, there is simple monitor.
I end the process and try again, again it opens as a process and not an app.
Anyone know why?

Edit: Must be the OS as it works on an old XP machine and in compat mode on this vista laptop though it is HUGE and looks ugly in compat mode!
May need help setting this thing up so you may hear from me in networking.
