After a virus (trojan) problem, I gave up and formatted the hard drive and reloaded all programs. I had saved all of my music files to CD using Roxio Easy CD & DVD creator vers. 6. I loaded the latest version of AVG antivirus. I also replaced the CD/RW and loaded the Nero OEM suite that came with it but when I tried to load my music files, they tried to load a Roxio file of some sort which locked up the computer. After restarting in safe mode, I removed that file, the computer worked OK. I then tried to load the Roxio vers. 6 with the same results. Each time, I used Restore to go back to a point before that and computer worked OK without the Roxio programs. Same problem when I tried to load a Roxio vers. 5. During the boot after loading the Roxio programs, when I hit control/alt/del, it showed that an AVG file was not responding and then when I tried to end the task, it locked up.

I have not tried to uninstall the AVG antivirus or the Nero software.

My operating system is Windows ME.

Any help would sure be appreciated as I have a lot of music on the CD's that I can't get back.

I installed AVG Free yesterday on my daughters machine. Once it started I rcvd a warning that my version of Roxio Easy CD Creator had issues with AVG Free and that I should get the Roxio Updated before installing the AVG.

Thing was... is that I do not have and Roxio CD anything installed. I went head anyway and did not encounter any problems.

I'd recommend seeing if there is an update to your Roxio suite first and then go from there. Good Luck

Nero & Roxio can confiict eachother, should only install one or the other.

Another thing you said you replaced the CDRW drive, if the roxio was OEM version that came with the previous cdrw drive, that could be a problem too.

If AVG is conflicting ( I doubt that really your problem), you could use Avast antivirus "free" (Only use one Antivirus program)
    Avast:

You had Virus/trogen You may still have some bugs causing problem's, better make sure system is clean.

This may help identify conflicts "Bigfix":

ME is probably the poorest OS ever made, it has enough problem's by it's self.
