Apple Mobile Support Service

A few days ago I upgraded iTunes on my Windows XP Pro to the newest version. After doing so, I noticed the above program (Apple Mobile Support Service) was added, apparently during the upgrade process.

I assume this program is for the iPhone, which I don't have and don't intend to get. As best I can tell, I don't need this program on my pc.

Apple Mobile Support Service does appear in Add/Remove Programs. But before uninstalling it, I googled to see if there were any related issues. I couldn't find much, but did come across the below blog. What's confusing is that the author mentions the Add/Remove Programs option to uninstall it, but the comments from readers of that blog seem to ignore that option and suggest disabling it from Services.msg and from Startup via msconfig. If one doesn't want this program, then why not just completely uninstall it?

Any suggestions on the best way to proceed?

Well, being that it doesn't always show up in Add/Remove (certainly not mine), aside from using something to hack it out, your options are to disable the service.

I don't see any particular issue with doing either way, unless of course it breaks key components of iTunes.

 

I guess the root of my question is whether Apple Mobile Support Service IS a key component of iTunes.
Does anyone know if it is safe to uninstall?

 

easy... because you can't. Or rather, you can uninstall it, but it will be back within a few days. And the option to uninstall it will be gone.
