Application Hanging on XP pro

    Hi All , I have a pentium 4 , 2.66 ghz, 256 ram , 31gb hard disk. running winXp professional edition, when i open an appilcation whether be it local or web -based , my screen freezes , mouse & keyboard be comes inactive .
    i hve checked the Processor & ram performance , its ok all is working fine i.e no fault in them . Can anybody help me figure out what is causing this and how to correct this problem. Note that each time when the application frezes out , i have to unplug thw power cord and repower.

    If you right click my computer, click manage, event viewer, click applications, and look for yellow exclamations, you can the double click these, one at a time, write down the wording as it appears in the box that shows for each one, and let us know what they say
