Application Mover?

In the past few days, as some of you painfully know, I've been going through re-installation hell. I think I'm almost there with all the system setup, except that, out of sheer desperation I couldn't be bothered with any adequate organization of the "program files" folders. As a result, I have a folder which is a mess, with each and every application having its own folder. I would prefer, however, having the apps grouped so that they're easier to find, even when I don't remember what exactly their name is. The idea is to have, within the Program Files folder, subfolders labeled "video", "file administration", "system", "drivers", etc.

Question 1: Is this worth the hassle or am I just being an order freak? Are there any real disadvantages due to having a disorganized application folder?

Question 2: What are your experiences with Application Mover. Does it play around with the registry in an odd way? Have you seen this app destabilize systems? I see it has a rather good rating, but I haven't been able to find very many comments...

I hate my program files running over three columns so I periodically go into Documents and Settings/my user name/Start Menu/Programs and create folders and move things around.
I also do the same under Documents and Settings/All Users/Start Menu/Programs
It hasn't created any problems for me so far.

    I haven't used Application mover so I can't comment.

yeah, me too.. I wlays keep a freakishly categorized start menu, so that the menu is as short as possible.

but in this case, I'm referring to the "c:\program files" folder, not the start menu ;)

I never touch C:\Program Files because programs that install put there files there. If you start re-organizing that, you risk breaking programs.
