I have an older PC that failed, however the hdd is okay. There are several applications on it that I want to use and I want to keep this hdd intact and use it as a slave drive in the other box. I have been able to get a few of the apps working by editing the registry and setting the pointers to the old drive but this is a very labor intensive procedure.

I guess what I want to do is just modify the registry on the new box to point to apps on the old hdd, not actually move the apps. Anyone know of software that can accomplish what I want to do? I've looked at the trial version of Application Mover, and perhaps I didn't spend enough time with it but it actually moved the apps off the old drive to the new drive and they didn't work.

    Thanks,
    LL

There's one by laplink, I believe it is called PC mover, not sure if it requires your old PC to operate or if it can locate the registry file on the old drive. You might be interested in some remote registry software, which would allow you to look at the registry on the old drive and export keys and such to the new system, likewise be careful.

Thanks for suggestions. I have just finished a very tedious procedure and everything seems to be working.

It seems that most of the app movers out there function much like Microsofts file and settings transfer wizard and require two working PC's.

I didn't look into any remote registry software, if there is some that will allow you to copy keys and strings from old to new that may have saved some time. The way I did it was Load hive from the old, looked for the application entries and manually entered the values into the new registry. It works but as I said very tedious.
