Had a problem awhile aback where computer was slow and cpu showed at 100% and I could not play quake 3. AGV found some trojans and that fixed the cpu issue, but I could not play quake. The hour glass would appear, and then go away. I looked around on the web and some dude had the same problem he solved by removing malware. So I downloaded Malwarebytes and all was good for a couple weeks.

Now I cannot open many of the applications. Just an hour glass that goes away. AGV will not install the latest, HI-Jack this will not launch, windows internet explorer will not launch, MS Word and MS excel will not. Mozilla Firefox does and so does Google Earth. These are a few that do launch. I cannot download and install anything.

I can run msconfi, regedit, and stuff like that from the RUN menu, but applications as listed above will not launch.

My wife has a subscription to windows live one care that is good for 3 computers so I downloaded it, but it will not let me launch it.

What do I do? I cannot launch anything to diagnose the problem. Not even ccleaner.

    Please help.

Oh yeah, Quake 3 will launch this time.

I read your Malware Removal Posts and did the following so far:
    1. Says to uninstall malware using Add/Remove programs. System will not allow me to do this. I get the hour glass thing and it goes away and nothing more.
    2. MSConfig is set to normal boot.
    3. I emptied the AGV Vault which contained two instances of SHeur2.zgy dated 4/11/09.
    5. I already had ccleaner on the system, but I cannot launch it.
    6. Set so I can view hidden system files and folders as directed.
    Next: Windows XP Cleaning Procedure.
    1. Downloaded Superantispyware.
    2. Malware bytes is already on my system. This is what got me going last time.
    3. Combo fix errors out... 404 - Not Found ??????????
    4. MGtools is saved to root directory C:/

    Now I will try.

Start with Norman's little malware cleaner. Download it to your desktop but don't install. Then boot into safe mode and then start it - scan all drives. Norman will probably reboot the machine. Then you need to go back into safe mode and run it all over again. Then continue with "Read and run me first".

I did what you said. I downloaded NORMANS to the desktop and rebooted in safe mode. I logged in as user DAD who is an administrator. Double clicked on NORMANS and the application launched until I got this message. "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." So I rebooted again in safe mode and logged in as user ADMINISTRATOR. NORMANS did not appear on the desktop. So I rebooted again, in safe mode with network, and logged in as ADMINISTRATOR. I downloaded NORMANS again to the desktop. Then I double clicked on NORMANS and the application launched until I got the same message. "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." What's up with that? At least I was able to get to the point of launch.

I am actually typing this post using the computer with the problem in safe mode with network.

Information for advanced users about the changes to the built-in administrator account in Windows Vista. Article here.

You can also create a super administrator. Article here.

Usually you just right click on the programs shortcut and choose run as admin.

Yes, quite awhile back. I will go thru Norton Removal procedure. Thanks a whole bunch so far!

Well, I tried it. I've got the same problem trying to launch the application. The hour glass appears then goes away. I am still logged in as administrator in safe mode.
