anyone know any more info on this thing? i have hijack this, MS spyware, and spy sweeper, plus an additional pop up blocker, and somehow this got on the computer, and no matter what i do it comes back. i click remove each time, it tells me to reboot the computer etc, and yet nothing apparently gets done because as soon as i reboot and it goes through the registry it finds it again. i have manually deleted as well as used the spyware programs to no avail.

ive searched on google etc and see others are having the same problem but havent seen a result where someone has had the problem solved.

    Please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

This is great. After following the instructions to a "T" in the first post, not only did it really do nothing but waste time and downloading files, but it's still there, and on top of that, I get a recurring internet explorer error message that says something unexpected happened and it must close, even when MSIE isnt open or never was open. on top of that it comes back every five seconds!

every single scan produces the same exact results.

Let's look into the possible cause of your IE error. Uninstall Google Toolbar it has been causing a load of problems like this lately.

Let us know if that helps.

You have not completed all the steps in the READ ME FIRST.

what have i not completed? btw the MSIE error was caused by one of the programs you guys had me download. i uninstalled them and no more problems with the error. of course i ran them all while in safe mode first, used them, and they did nothing. well they did, but the problem came back immediatel.y

Be specific! What program! None of them should cause this problem! Thousands of people have used them with no problems. Google Toolbar however is causing problems all over the place. It could be a conflict because it is installed.

You did not run either of the online scanners and they are step 1. That's makes us wonder if anything else was not run.

Calm down dude. sorry i missed the two online scanners, im doing that right now. as for the google toolbar, shrug, its worked fine for months with no problems and i use it constantly.

i dont know what specific program because i just uninstalled them all at once. ive been rebooting in safe mode and rebooting for the last hour and a half and doing scans per your instructions and only after i had installed the programs did i get that error. ill probably re-install one by one later. but they are pretty much useless at this point, because they arent doing anything but removing the problem for 10 seconds until it comes back.

Based on your previous post, I would say that you are the one that needs to calm down!

All I did was ask you to follow the directions given. And Google is causing problems now. For just one example read this: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=72917

Just because something worked in the past does not mean that it cannot be causing problems now. By the same reasoning, it also does not mean that Google Toolbar is absolutely the problem. However none of the software we had you install is by itself the cause of IE crashing. In conjunction with some other software (like Google Toolbar for example), perhaps there is a conflict in your case.

so what do you think the problem is with the spyware, we still have yet to address that?

    That's true!

Post some logs from what is being found by the scanners that have been and are being run.

There is a rash of Apropos Media problems appearing on the internet and they are stubborn to remove.

Is you HJT log complete and unedited and unfiltered. Its seems rather small and unusual.

Also you do not have an antivirus application and you do not have a true bidirectional firewall installed. This is very dangerous!

no the log is completely unedited. im not going to reinstall the same exact programs all over again. they each find the same exact thing - that stupid program in the registry...two instances in the same key, which it deleted and manages to get right back in :(

I need to see what items are being found. You said you were running the online scanners. Post the logs!

Otherwise look into the below and see what you can figure out:

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.apropos.html

You still have no antivirus application or firewall and that has nothing to do with what is in the READ ME.
