apyware smarter that adaware

I have a laptop running xp with over 1000 instances of spyware on it. However one of the programs on it causes the system to shutdown whenever adaware trys to run. it says NT system something or another wants to close and counts down for 30 seconds before closing.

What can I do?

Any other possibilities? This is the Adminstrative director's laptop and I'm going to have a go at it when she leaves in a little while. So any diagnostics, anti-everything, and removal tools you think I should try and why would be most helpful and asap.

 

boot ye pc in safe mode without networking.

Reboot and then hit windows update and get all the critical updates there are.

okay, indulge me, i always forget. How do i boot in safe mode. f8 during something, but i always forget...

 

F8 after POST but before the WindowsXP splash screen.
