Aquaring Network Status

hey guys, so i just move into my new house about a week ago, and for some reason, my computer doesnt want to connect to the internet, im currently using my roomsmates laptop, which didnt take any configuring to get it on the net, altho it is a newer computer, my desktops OS is windows xp, and my local area connection always says "aquaring network status", i ran a ipconfig /all command in the cmd thing, and it tells me my ip adress and subnet mask are all 0.0.0.0, help please
