This is the only site I use for accurate, well thought out answers. Setting up another Dell to replace a Gateway, Dell has embedded McAfee Security Center in hopes that the consumer will just click on and accept. I use Norton exclusively. I opted out setting McAfee up. I have 2 Dell's networked together and my main one has a good Linksys firewall router, XP's built in firewall & Norton for protection. Is it not true that the second computer receives the same protection as the main computer negating the use of another installed virus package. But what if my main is shut down or on standby? Is the second still protected or not?

Hmm...I'm fairly certain that your computer will not get the benefits of the antivirus software, unless you were to map all the drives on the client computer on the AV host computer. Then you could scan those drives as if they were local. And this would not give you the real-time protection at all.

Thankyou. So you are under the impression that it would be mandatory that I load Norton on the networked connected computer as well to be AV protected?
