Aquiring Adress Problem

I read some of the threads and didnt really come up with anything so Im asking for some help...
I have a linksys sytem on high speed Motorolla Surf Board Modem and now the prob
I have a Compaq Presario V4000 Wirelss connection works great when I start up the desk top that is connected by eithernet cable, connection for desktop great wireless still good..
But my friends computer is same make model just V5000 if his wireless starts before my desktop my desktop never connects... If I connect first, his comp does great and so does mine but if he does my desk top never does connect and continues to require network addres say needs IP why does this happen what can I do to fix this annoyance? Thanks to all for answers or any help :confused

 

Your Router DHCP server is probably Not configures correctly.

Look at the Router's DHCP server and make sure that it is configured correctly.

 

Thank you for the reply, Im not sure on what DHCP is and go figure I cant find the material that come with it.
How is this done and do I have to be directly connected to the router for this or can I do this with through wireless connection? Thanks again.

rtfm please you need to log into the Linksys routers manageable interface typically this will be your default gateway IP address. Once in there you can pretty much just click through the interface and change the DHCP server settings be sure to click apply/save settings or else they obviously wont save
