Made this thread a sticky as there have been multiple threads started about issues with the arcade. As requested by Major Attitude in post #3, please post any problems encountered in this thread so that he can look into the issue as quickly as possible.

I don't mind helping you figure out the categories for games. How do you want me to tell you what categories the games should fit in here or via PM?

Also are you limited on how many categories you can create? I'll get what I've figured out and see how many are in each of the current categories. If there are some that needs to be created, I'll let you know.

 

This is a thread I posted in the Lounge by mistake - was told to put it here..

I've just joined Major Geeks, and played some of the games.
Was playing Space Invaders (never thought I would see that game again - nice one...) and was getting a good score, when all of a sudden, the screen went black/green and I got the slogan SPACE INVADERS.'
Now, I know this happens if you allow them to get right down to the bottom, you lose your score and everything (this is how Iremember it, anyway).
Problem is, or was, in this case, the first row of invaders was nowhere near the bottom line, and I had two men left - no idea what happened?
So I quit the game, but then had this very odd message or something, saying that I had not logged on - only I had logged on. Have other players lost their scores like this?

 

Many thanks for telling me I have to click the 'remember me' box; didn't know that; however, what still is going on with Space Invaders in the arcade???
I got the highest score; or so I thought I had - then deliberately lost all remaining men (as you lose everything, including the score if the ranks get too low) - then the screen blanked just as described in my last post before this one.
I only joined today, but this is the second time it's happened! This plays and looks like the original Space Invaders, but at least with the old one you kept your score...

 

Using joysticks in the arcade

Just wondering if you can use joysticks with the games in the arcade, i.e; are the shooting-type games programmed to work with joysticks?
I ask because my space bar is seizing up in things like Asteroids...

Generally speaking, free online games do not usually work with joysticks and I assume you have already tried this? Now if you were playing on a server dedicated to a game like UT, CS or similar, yes you can generally use a joystick.

If you are having difficulty with your space bar locking up have you tried cleaning it?..or maybe your keyboard is just wearing out and it's time for a replacement? We just went through that here with a keyboard that had certain keys that would lockup..bought a new keyboard and the problem was solved.

 

Alt-key and Asteroids

This has happened before... I'm playing Asteroids (childish I know...) and, well, if you acidentally hit the Alt key, which is very easu to do as it's right next to the spacebar, the players' spaceship/craft, what ever you want to call it; does not respond to the right arrow-key; it just freezes.
I don't know if this is a Windows XP problem, or what? Any ideas?

I havn't yet tried a joystick, but I see what you mean. My keyboard is just about two months old though, doesn't stick so much, but the problem is that you can't hit the spacebar fast enough without getting rsi (repetative strain injury). With a prgrammable joystick however, set for very rapid fire (i.e cheating), there wouldn't be this problem.

Half of the games in the Arcade are unplayable with a standard keyboard/mouse - sorry, but this is how I see it. The ones that are playable, don't keep the scores, so what's the point?
Also, if you happen to have a curved screen, i.e. a CRT monitor, then the angles are almost imposible to judge for certain types of games.
Also some of the high scores are not possible with a keyboard/mouse - you can't get the rate of fire, etc, etc, so how are some of the scores reached then? Are some of the players using joysticks, which would be more plausible?

 

@ a.jenery...You say half of the games are unplayable with a keyboard/mouse but you don't say which ones? We cannot address potential issues with games if we don't know which ones possibly have a problem...please be more specific..re: what game(s) and what the issue is.

@ a.jenery & playerofgames...As to the high scores/rapid fire...although I don't generally play the games in the arcade I can, and have increased the sensitivity/repeat on my keyboard/mouse in order to have a better gaming experience and then just put it back to normal for regular typing. Is that an option for either of you? If not, then I would just not play the games that frustrate you.

@ playerofgames...thanks I made that one quite a while ago..the sparkles actually represent tears..just the mood I was in at the time.

 

Cheers AbbySue - was just curious about the sparkles. How does one increase the sensativity on the keyboard? Looked through Windows-XP, couldn't find anything - must be looking somewhere wrong..?

As my puter is currently down I can't verify this and TBH, I don't recall for sure if XP has separate settings via the control panel for mouse & keyboard but I 'think' there are minimal settings to be found there. I have a logitec mouse and keyboard which has it's own software and drivers...that is where I adjust my settings as needed.

What is wrong with Space Invaders in Arcade? Time and time and time again, one's score is not kept. What is going on? This happens whether or not I forget to click on 'remember me' upon loggin on. And are other people experiencing the same thing? This can't be just happenning to me, right?

 

Halo - cheers on the info for adjusting the keyboard's repeat rate; did this and it works ok.

As someone who has had similar problems with games in the arcade, I find this a bit much. I've read a few of a.jenery's posts on this topic, and frankly this individual is simply just explaining what he finds; certainly it is not ranting.

However - and this is to a.jenery; calling a spade a spade is all very well, but a bit more tact would go a long way.

 

Is there something I can do to get Mini Putt 1,2 and 3 back?
