Are DDR standards backward-compatible?

My sister has an old 1 Ghz Duron Processor which uses PC133 DDR memory. The CMOS on her current mobo is dying, so she's looking to replace the motherboard, unfortunately, no one sells PC133 mobos anymore. If she buys a mobo that uses a newer speed (say, PC2100 or 2700), will it be able to read her memory if the FSB is at the correct speed?

PC133 SDRAM is different from PC2100 DDR SDRAM. They are not compatible.

Your best bet would be to upgrade the motherboard/CPU/RAM altogether. That way you can get compatible components.

A stupid suggestion, maybe, as I am not real good on hardware, but maybe try replacing the mobo battery as a cheaper first step. Bazza
