Are Mobo and case front panel audio compatable?

I want to connect a gigabyte ga-b75m-d3h mobo ac97 FP audio header to the ac97 connector on the Rosewill Challenger case, but I cannot tell from the pin descriptions if they match up or not. Are the connections compatible?

I think I got the order right but the listings in the case manual are not numbered.

 

Is the Case's AC97 cable not an "single block"? (Many cases have a single cable with two connectors - one HD, one AC97; I don't know how the Challenger does this - maybe you can tell us?) And I'd assume the Gigabyte board could handle either...

 

The case connectors are grouped in separate blocks for HD and ac97 and yes the mobo has a plugs for both. My prior computers had always been set for ac97 but this is my first full build and I wasn't really sure if HD audio was used for something specific (like hdmi audio) or if they are interchangeable. I had read of some rare person whose audio case cable was wired wrong/diferently and shorted out the system.

 

As long as they're in blocks, you can use either but HD Audio will deliver as good or better results.

 

So do you think the apparent wiring label differences between the mobo and case are insignificant?

 

The case wires can only be fed by whatever the motherboard generates. All the LINE OUT, IN, POWERs match. The Ground wires are No-Charge'd so that's fine. "Insignificant" is way to look at the lettering - "all the same" could be another for their actual purposes.
