I clicked on YES when deleting items under the "file types" tab using RegCleaner. Now I find I can`t access any programs by clicking on any icons on my desktop, taskbar or quicklaunch. Also I can`t boot into safe mode but can bring up my bios menu. When I tried to get back to normal by typing into RUN "msconfig" for system restore and "scanreg /fix" a box appears saying that "there is no program associated with this file to perform this action". However, getting here for help and navigateing around the internet is no problem. Is there any other way to access system restore with a boot floppy? Or am I looking at a clean reinstall.
    Windows ME
    Intell Pentium 3 1g.
    256 ram
    20g hd
    Dell 4100
    Thanks. moif

Check RegCleaner to see if it made a backup of your registry before you did anything.

I can`t bring up ANYTHING by clicking on icons or START>PROGRAMS> or any of the items listed. I wish I could get to Regcleaner or system restore or rebuild the registry. moif

    go to this folder
    C:\Program Files\RegCleaner\Backups
there should be a file in there with a date on it of the last registry change. See if you can open that. It will restore your registry to previous state. If you can't do it by clicking on it.. try opening it at the command prompt by going to that directory and typing the name of the file in there and hitting enter.
    Confirm all prompts.

Try rebooting in Safe Mode and run System Restore.

*sigh* another person who deleted all of their programs with RegCleaner...

If you can get into windows explorer... go to My Computer, Program files, Reg Cleaner and you should find a file in there with a .reg extension. double click and reboot.

Well kodo it looks like I must have used WMD in RegCleaner because when I did as you instructed I get the same notice when I click on the latest backup date icon--"there is no program associated with this file to perform this action". I`m stumped. moif

I'm sure there are no ways except using Safe Mode. Even if you are using IE, in the address bar, if you type "C:\" or any other folder. Then under the "Tools" menu you will see "Folder Options". Go there and choose the "File Types". Try to create a new type with .reg extension. But it won't work as you have to associate a program with it like "regedit.exe "%1"". But exe files don't work for you either.

    So, no other way.
