    Well thank the lord that I had exported them to IE and could then import them back, phew! :)

    Open "My computer", go to the tools menu, go to folder options, view, and make sure you show hidden folders.

    Open C, Documents and Settings, and your user folder (the one you are logged in under), open Application Data, Mozilla and Firefox.

    In the firefox folder you have a folder called "Profiles". In there, you probably have at least 2 different folders with strange names, open them, to see which one looks as if it is the one with all your information. Copy the name of "your" folder.

    Go back up one step to the Firefox folder and open the "profiles.ini" file. After Path=Profiles/ paste the name of "your" folder and leave the .default. after it, so that it looks exactly how it loocked before, only with your folder name in there instead of the old one.

    Close the ini file and save.

    This will make sure Firefox looks for your profile every time it loads. You could delete the other profile folder if you want to, but make sure you delete the right one...

    I've had this problem too, after messing too much with intalls and extensions, and it is sad when all settings are missing! But this folder remembers everything, passwords that you might have, how you organize favourites, all your extensions, everything!

    Good luck! :)

    Happened to me once too. Make sure you're on the right profile.

    I've had it happen to me about 3 times in the last year. So far, I just restart the computer, and everything comes back to normal.

    This little baby is a backup manager for the profile, and you can select any folder anywhere on your computer to save it! :)

    I had this problem too, twice I used the system restore to get my stuff back... But I realised there must be a better way! And there was! :D

    Easiest way to see what profile folder is yours is to look at the extensions, the other folder is probably not going to have what you installed on your profile.

    And if you take the wrong one and make the path to it, it is easy to change! ;)

    Thanks guys, thats fixed a problem I had too.

    The thing is, i've been using this 'other' profile for a little while now, and have built up a whole new set of favourites.

    In my profile.ini it reads:

    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/yg9ux1ax.default

    [Profile1]
    Name=Default User
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/4bmltpoo.Default User
    Default=1

    How can i switch between the two profiles? Is it possible? Also, is there a way of importing one profile's favourites into another profile?

    Thanks!

    Aha!

    It's easy to import fav's from the 'other' profile. In firefox, click Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks
    A new window pops up. Click File/Import..
    Navigate to the Firefox Profiles folder as below, go into the 'other' profile, and select the file called 'bookmarks.htm'
    Unfortunately, this will also import the 'Firefox Crew Picks' etc folders, so you will have two lots in your Bookmarks drop down menu. To solve this, simply click Bookmarks/Manage Bookmarks, and delete these duplicate folders. Done!

    Sorry if this was obvious, but i thought it might help someone like me in the future from having to figure it out for themselves!

    Ta!

    Each profile path has it's own location as shown in PATH parameter in the profile.ini
    Each location has its' own bookmarks.html. One file that holds all of your bookmarks.
    You should be able to use the bookmarks import feature to import from one profile to another.
