Switched on the laptop today (Toshiba Satellite A300 1J1) and I have the power running no problems, but my monitor is black and doing nothing.
Hitting the power button to try and restart the machine has no effect.
Even if I sit and let the battery power run out I don't see that it's going to help me do a restart, because I will plug in the charger and it will just still have a black blank screen.

Would it be a sensible idea to pull out the battery and put it back in? Will this damage the machine while it's still powered on?

Why does it feel like a monday?:cry

Thanks for any help....I have scoured my Toshiba manual and am about to go hunting online for info when I should be doing other things. *Thanks God I have other computers*

No reset button that I can see either......

Never mind....Toshiba can take the damn thing apart while it's still under warranty. one month old and trouble already.....

Now I thought I may as well jot down what happened....I let the battery life drain right down....fired up the charger in it and voila :) Laptop is running. I don't know what happened or what caused it I just know that I am going to back up my data now LOL

Yes it's quite safe and correct to reset by removing the main battery and then putting it back.

You need to check the hibernate/sleep and power control settings and those of the power button.

    Is it Vista?

Sorry...yes it is Vista. Now I hadn't altered any of the power settings....I hadn't changed anything...I just put the whole incident down to one of my little "dilemma's" :)

That router's next on my list of things to do after backing this up.....LOL;)

Put it in the cellar to sprout along with the potatoes. It will have some lovely shoots by next spring.

hekko Kestrel13. It may not be Monday, but hang in there. Friday's coming. Good luck on your laptop.(On a side track, I wonder if the "gentleman" from 10-18-08 has fired anyone yet.)
