Artec WSM-52X

Ok I think this is a driver issue, but I have know idea what to do next. The device is a artec wsm-52x when I insert a disc it spins around and I hear it working, but I don't get the usually pop up installation thing. So I went to my computer and my cd-rw drive isn't listed. I checked the device manager and it is listed, but with an exclamation point. I also check the bios and it is listed there. I tried detaching and reattaching (wires are in properly) and it and when I startup my computer says found new hardware. So then I tried to install universal driver and it says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". I was told to check and see if its slave or master, but I have never changed anything inside my computer, it was working one day then the next day it isn't. Is this a driver problem or should I just buy a new cd-rw?

 

I'm assuming you are using XP as this is a common problem, but anyway,

Go to Start, Run and type in regedit then OK.

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Close and restart and that should do it.

If you find that some burning programs now don't work then simply just reinstall them.
