Working on Inspiron 531. So, no startup, no power on. Power supply looks like non factory. Dell inquiry on old stuff is like pulling teeth. Question is, was factory Power Supply non standard ? Motherboard is Asus factory M2n61-ax. Do not have history. Thank you in Advance !

Thank you again. Doing some cross matching. I have a working optiplex gx620 and a gx260. Psu are different form, but maybe can use for testing. The AGI (HP-P3507F5W) was in the Inspiron531, only putting out 11.7 V on 12V rail without load.

    optiplex gx620 uses a 275 watt psu
optiplex gx260 uses a 250 watt but it is a sff psu
That's why the size is different.

I have an atx (very large case) that needs a power supply. I have a small spare psu. To test if the psu failed, I only hooked up the hd to the spare psu out of the case. When it turned on, I knew the psu was the problem. It is good to test but will not work inside the case because it is the wrong size and low wattage.

I decided to breadboard this. Using the old PSU and paper clip to green and black. The fan started spinning but no post. Removed heatsink and not any thermal paste at all. Not sure why it was put together like this. I will try some Arctic Silver on it.

Ouch. GX 260. I had this machine for a year. Hard to believe there has ever been a worse machine ever. It was known to have bad caps by the way...like chronically bad caps. The one I had just died. I mean it just died. Everything was wrong, PSU popped, hard drive was trash, caps exploded, the works, so I marched it to the dumpster and Kobe'd :)oops:) over the top wall :D. I got a new in box GX 270 about a week later, and it was way better. I put 3 GB in it and kept it for about 8 years. I remember the 270 was the first in that line with dual channel memory...such good times...
