Hey, I'm having issues installing this damned audio driver. What happened was I swapped my old laptop (eMachine d620) hard drive into my other laptop, an Acer Aspire 4520, installed the necessary drivers and all seem to work fine EXCEPT this Realtek audio driver. I downloaded the Win7 driver from the official website, have installed and uninstalled so many times it's getting ridiculous.

In my device manager there's a yellow sign next to 'High Definition Audio Controller' under the System Devices dropdown. I tried disabling and uninstalling this, uninstalling realtek, re-installing realtek, restarting, always ending up with the same result, 'High Definition Audio Controller' with that yellow sign.

In my bottom right tray there's the audio icon with an X over it. When I hover over it it says 'No audio output device is installed'

In the device manager I removed everything under the Sound, video, etc. (can't remember the exact name) dropdown, and nothing will pop up there anymore. I tried flashing my BIOS and have tried a few various other drivers from Realtek for this laptop model, but nothing has worked.

I made sure my audio & plug n play services are activated and running as well.

I have no clue what else there is to do!

    I uploaded an Everest report.

I traded in for this laptop because my previous one was too slow to handle my music production software. This laptop has the power, but I can't get it to play any sound, so this is getting very frustrating! If anybody could help that'd be great, thanks!

Ok , do this step , right click on the device in device manager. Properties, details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids.
Copy and paste the results here !! :tas

iain.t: I'll try these drivers and update. I'm back at home with about 20kb/s internet, so it'll be a few :p
edit: turns out I already had these downloaded. Gonna give it a try real quick, not sure if I have yet.

    Thanks!

Well, I got it fixed. Not sure how, it's practically the same step I've tried a billion times the past 15 hours.

Anywho, I disabled & removed my High Definition Audio Controller, uninstalled what version of the Realtek drivers I had installed via the Add/Remove programs, then installed this driver here:
    http://majorgeeks.com/Realtek_High_Definition_Audio_for_VistaWin_7_d5513.html

The drivers from the Acer website didn't work :p

Anyways, maybe I downloaded this driver last night and forgot to give it a try! Who knows, I was frustrated and downloading all kinds of things.

Thanks for the reminder on this driver iain.t & thanks falconattack!
