Assistance Required!

I am experiencing recent problems with my PC and am hoping someone may be able to help. I have recently been having problems with my Windows 98 system (old, I know, but functional).

There seems to be a new file on C: Windows/System that I dont recognise and often comes up as 'not responding' when hitting the old Control, Alt Delete when the system freezes (which it now does frequently).

Its icon is a P with a yellow halo above it and is named- wtssvit. It is 64kb and an application file type.

I think it is responsible for causing problems such as lots of illegal operations that never happened before and not being to access files through explorer. I have to go into Word to open a file for example. The computer often freezes and has to be reset.

If you try to delete this file, it says it is being used by Windows and cant be removed.

The computer also tries to connect to the internet all the time now when not prompted.

I know the problem may not be this file, but it has only recently appeared, and I know it was not added deliberately.

There is also a large area of 'files that will not be moved' when using the system disc defragmenter. This is also recent.

I have Spybot, AdAware and Norton on the system and they cant seem to help.

I hope this is enough to get some advice. Any assistance on what the problem may be and how to fix it would be welcome.

If you haven't updated Adaware and Spybot do that and scan again.

Looks like you've got Purityscan.b, there's an uninstaller here

but it may not work, in which case follow the 'Manual Removal' directions here
