Well im in the market for some RAM.
Found out i've been running PC2700 which is fine, but not up to the MB's capability so ill be dumping my Kingston RAM over to my aunt and switching over to Corsair.
My question is which RAM to get?
I would like minimum 512, but tempted to get 1G, but not sure which to get in terms of the type, meaning, Value RAM (again, which seemed fine) or the XMS from Corsair, the premium stuff
Im not a heavy gamer by any means, really only play 1 first person shooter game online, and that's it, otherwise, im strictly a surfer and school stuff, documents.
Im gonna do a search, but would also like first hand response/replies, thanks in advance guys & gals.
Been reading in the threads that there have been some problems with Corsair and the deluxe model of my A7N8X...is this something i should be worried about?
    Thanks guys

Do you have deluxe? This conflict was resolved with a bios update released by Asus.

You should get 2 sticks of 256mb or 512mb PC3200 Corsair XMS, not Value. Put one on each channel to run in dual channel mode. If you get 2 x 256mb then you will have max upgradability of 1 gig. If you get 2 x 512mb, you will have 1 gig with max upgradability of 2 gigs. You would prob want to go with the former since 1 gig is probably the absolute most you will ever need and you can see how 512mb total ram performs so you don't buy more than you really need.

nope dont have the deluxe, just A7N8X bare bone.
why do you recommend the premium XMS over the value?
from what i interpreted, the XMS is more for graphics intensive usage (ie-gaming).
    or am i missing something?
    thanks by the way =)

The value stuff will be fine. Anything from Kingston, Crucial, Corsiar, and a few others will work good for you. Don't worry about spending a bunch of money on the premium stuff. You won't notice the difference.

Especially if you are only playing Planetside, I'm guessing?

Since that MB only has single channel memory capability, you can buy one stick of DDR 400 (PC3200), and as recommended, save your money and get regular namebrand memory.

The A7N8X definitely does dual channel. Both the deluxe, and regular versions...

You might be thinking of the A7N8X-X. (The value version of the A7N8X)

He has the -X version, as stated in his post. Single channel.

A7N8X-X is what i have, originally stated A7N8X, but other than that, im just gonna tough it out for now...or if worse comes to worse, buy some PC3200 RAM then when it comes time to upgrade my MO'BO...ill be ready for it with at least one stick of 512... ;) ;) ;)
