Asus A7N8X-X Reboot problems

I just built a computer for my dad's office with the Asus A7N8X-X mobo, 1.25 GHz Athlon XP chip, 1 gig of ram, 100 meg zip drive, NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 for video, CD writable and an 80 gig Western Digital HD. The system is running on Windows XP Home edition Service Pack 2.

The problem I'm having is that any and every time I get prompted by software needing a reboot or by rebooting the computer myself, it does the normal shutting down for a reboot but once the screen goes blank at the bottom end to start up windows and such, it stops, yet the hard drive is running constantly. I built it last week and because of this problem, it crashed once partially because when it gets to the end of trying to reboot and you hit the restart button, it does nothing and turning off the computer and restarting at that point, it tries to go to either safe mode or normal and then it stops loading at all saying files are corrupt because of a bad reboot or not stopped correctly. I have to tell it to shut down and then turn the computer on to reboot it.

I've been told that it's a conflict possibly with the video card but I've now tried 3 different video cards on the box and it still does the same thing.

I hope someone here can help me figure out how to fix this problem so I can actually reboot this box.

Have you checked the motherboard manufacturer's website for any updates you might need? Do you have the current BIOS installed?

I've gone to ASUStec's website a few times now and searched hi and low for bios and driver updates and anything else I could find and the only thing available for it are a few drivers for sound I think, or LAN.

Is that link you gave me as a solution, do you think, strictly for when it locks up while saying 'saving your settings' or does it also apply to where it ends for me? It's way beyond the saving area so I'm not sure if it does apply. When I did the install, I had only one problem both times and that was when windows was restarting the computer to continue the install, that's when I noticed something was wrong the first time. It would go down to the point of a reboot but never flip around and reload at all. That's another reason why it is something other than windows itself. I'm not sure. I've done a few windows updates too and it continues. :(

So your comp saves setting's black screen but the restart doesn't continue?Although the HD is spinning?

Exactly that. When it reboots, it goes down to the black screen just before it starts up to find the drives and such but nothing ever comes up and the hard drive light is solid like it's spinning. Somehow it's at a point that if I turn off the computer from there manually, it starts giving corruption notices or something about windows not shutting down right and such. Cont. + Alt. + Del. doesn't do anything either at that point.
