I just got a new Asus A7V8X-X, I have the AMD Athlon XP 2900 on it, AMD Athlon XP 3000 cpu fan, 400 watt dynex power supply, Maxtor 250 GB HD, Sony Floppy, CD-ROM, and a 64 MB Nvidia video card. When I start up the computer, nothing will come up on the monitor. The power to the computer goes on, but nothing will come up on the screen. And the monitor is plugged in, both the power and to the computer. It loads the CD rom, cause I can see the light on the CD Rom come on. And the lights on the keyboard come on too. Can anyone help me?

Do you have ram in it? Have you set jumpers? Did you just build this yourself? Any more info/history would be great.

This could be due to a problem with the DSW switches. I encountered the same problem with my XP 3000. Proper setup of the DSW switches can rectify the problem. refer to your motherboard manual for further info. The DSW switch settings along with the clock speed of your DRAM should equal the front side bus speed of the CPU (give or take a few MHz). ;)

My CPU's FSB is 333, therefore my DSW switch settings are set to 166 and my DRAM is set to 166. If you don't have any DSW switches then there should be some jumpers somewhere on the board that do the same thing. check the manual for the location. I think your MB is an X series though, going by the model number, so just look for a light blue panel with some small white switches.

UPDATE: I've just checked the ASUS website, the A7V8X-X does not have DSW switches, but it has a set of jumpers near the RAM slots. Refer to the User's Manual for appropriate settings. Also, check the box of your CPU for the FSB. If you don't have the box, It's just trial and error from there. When your BIOS detects the right clock speed, or displays the model number of your chip, you have found the right combination.
