Asus BIOS update from external USB.

I need to update my BIOS. Which per the BIOS load screen reads...

'ASUS P4P8X ACPI BIOS REVISION 1006'

I think the latest is 1014. I really need to get his updated as I am having a ton of problems. I do not have a CD writer now floppy drive. I hear that I can flash and update my bios via an external usb drive. is that right? how would that work?

You may be able to do Live update "Within windows" using Asus Live Update Utility

Just Keep in mind there are increased risk's when doing Live update.
I have done live update but prefer the old floppy way.

Do you know if they ever updated the compatability issue w/live update and X-fi?

 

I'm unaware of any compatability issues, that doesnt mean there aint any.

MG usually has the latest versions of utilities/programs (EEEk! one yr old today) the poster should check Asus's Web for the latest version or even check thier forum for any Issues.


I stated my first post I prefer updating via floppy, the reason being it's the safest way.
(A floppy drive can be had for around $4 to $10, one doesnt have to keep in thier system simply update & remove)
Weigh the cost Floppy drive vs new Bios chip or worse new MOBO

Or as the original Question about external usb drive update, I'm unware if can or cannot be done, that probably depends on the MOBO boot options.
