HP model xg825, PGA-370 Intel Celeron 768MHz, will not post after I upgraded memory to 512MB, both slots work and both sticks of muskin PC100 256MB work in either slot and posts with one stick installed but when I install both sticks NO POST. Please HELP!

It is very possible that this Motherboard has a limit on the amount of RAM it can handle.
I can't be certain because I can't find a spec sheet at ASUS.
If the limit is 256Mb then adding more than that will cause your PC to not post.

I did find this on HP's site:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...7170&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
But I'm afraid it only specifies the type of RAM accepted by the board, not the amount.

Since I can't find a model xg825 to search, go here
    http://www.crucial.com/
put in HP/Compaq then your model line and see what is the exact memory, both is speed and size that will fit in each slot.

    joelsz,
i contacted HP tech support (Big Laugh) they say 512MB PC100 SDRAM is max for this model. next i went to the ASUS site who’s specs said this board (CUW-AM) supports up to 512 MB PC100 SDRAM and thank you for the prompt reply

plodr -- sorry, it is a Pavilion XG825 and Curcial’s site confirms the previous intel re max ram = 512 PC100 SDRAM. Thank you for the help

If you can access the BIOS with both RAM chips installed, check and see if it has a RAM setting (many older computers did); reset it to 512 from 256 and save your changes. This should allow the computer to boot properly.

If you can't access the BIOS with both RAM chips installed, the best thing I can tell you is to put the single stick of RAM into the computer, access your BIOS, reset it to 512 from 256, save your changes and then turn the computer off.
Insert the other stick of RAM and reboot.

    You're welcome.
Did you have any success with the BIOS setup?
