Asus EEE PC connected but won't load webpages. Kind of bizarre.

This is rather bizarre. My Asus EEE pc netbook won't load web pages. It is connected to the internet, but won't load pages. I know it isn't the internet connection because others are able to access it on their computers on the same network. It loads web pages just fine at home, but not here at work. My coworker has an Asus EEE as well and she is able to access it no problem.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling my network adapter. I've put the power save mode on my adapter to off. I uninstalled Norton. I've turned my firewall off. It won't load in Firefox or IE.

The bizarre part is if I repair my connection, it works for about 30 seconds, and then will stop loading. It worked perfectly fine on Monday and then yesterday starting doing this. Please help - this is driving me insane!!

What happens if you try to ping the default gateway from the command line? what happens when you ping 4.2.2.2? what about when you ping www.google.com? or if you type nslookup www.google.com?

Are you connecting via dsl at work?

Looks like you are completely losing your network connection even though it may still show your wireless connection as connected.

Are you able to plug into the network via a wired connection? I am guessing you are in a small office with a qwest dsl modem and wireless router?

I am guessing that you would connect and surf fine if you plug in but would like to make sure.

I can't connect through a wired connection - the IT guy is super paranoid and won't let anyone near the modem/internet connection. I'm assuming it would work through a wired connection since I can still connect to the internet, just for fleeting moments.

Am I stuck? Is there a way to fix the reason behind losing the network connection?

Is the wireless connection wide open or is it using an encryption key? If it is using an encryption key I recommend carefully retyping it. To do this you may have to go into network and sharing center and then click on manage wireless networks. Then you can right click on the network and click on properties and go to the security tab. You can retype the key there.

You could try walking the laptop over to where the coworker connects fine and see if you get better results. Maybe something was installed or moved around that is causing interference. I doubt it but it's possible I guess.

After that I might try looking for updated drivers.

What should I be looking to update drivers on? I just tried my network adapter -- no updates there.

I was thinking of the wireless adapter drivers. You would get those from the laptop manufacturer's website.

Did you try retyping the encryption key? or is the connection unsecured?

  12. auntiekelsey07

    auntiekelsey07 Private E-2

Yeah, I retyped the encryption key - still no dice. I tried searching for wireless network adapter driver before and it didn't come up with anything... I'll try the website. I'm getting so frustrated!

Here is the site where you would find drivers http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us there is a wizard that will auto-detect you laptop model etc...

If you get the same results regardless of where you are in the building and you can get no help from the IT guy there then I am stumped. Since you say this only started on Monday you could try doing a system restore back to a time before the issues started.

I'm not sure the issue is even with your machine since you can stay connected to other wireless networks. Then again I would expect other users to have the same issue if the problem is with the network but this doesn't seem to be the case. I guess there could be MAC address filtering but that shouldn't let you connect for even 30 seconds.

I'm running out of ideas after you try everything I suggested. If you still aren't having any luck maybe someone else has an idea.

You could also check and see if you have Bonjour running as a service. You can do this by clicking on start and typing msconfig in the search box. Go to the services tab and look for bonjour service. It is associated with Apple products so you could just look for those services that have apple as the manufacturer. If you find it you can uncheck it to disable it then you will need to reboot.

Come to think of it this probably will not help because you can surf from home. It won't hurt to try though.

I disabled Bonjour, still not working.

I'm trying to find drivers for it, but apparently the wizard doesn't recognize my Netbook (stupid). I'm going to try and look more when I get home and I have a constant connection.

Something weird is going on. I did an entire system reset (to out of box state) and that didn't fix it either.

I'm not sure what else to do. I can't obviously bring it somewhere to have a tech look at it because my work is the only place it doesn't work....

Thanks so much for your suggestions and time - I really appreciate it!

I am having exactly the same problem with my new ASUS 1015 - one minute it was working, the next not, then on again, then off. I could try a wired connection but I want the wireless working. Perhaps we have a problem with these netbooks here...
