    Hi All,
I'm a newbie here, and have a questions I haven't been able to find an answer to. I have a K53E 1.0 laptop and would like to change some cassettes to CD (I'm a teacher with lots of books on tapes, etc.), but have not been able to find out how.

From what I can see on my laptop, the only "in" ports are the microphone port and USB ports.

Does anybody know what I should do?
    Thanks,
    Dencha

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm not in the UK, so couldn't buy a kit, but if I purchase a used cassette deck that has an audio out/RCA cable, then hook it up to my laptop (I'm sure I'll need an adaptor) into the microphone outlet, it should work. I'll just have to download a program to make the change to digital fomat.

    Does that sound right?
Thanks so much for your help!
    Denise:)

    Hi,

Line in is a better match to the output of the cassette player (600 Ohn Line Out) but use the one that sounds best.

    Luck, Jim

Apparently, the second one has been deleted.

Thanks for checking. I ended up picking that one up last night...it was $12, so it wasn't much of an investment. It's got RCA cords for in and out...do I want female or male openings for those?

I assume male going into my computer. (this one, I assume, but are they all the same?RCA to 1/8" (3.5 mm) stereo Y cable--will te plug fit my microphone plug on my laptop?)

Any suggestions regarding where to get it?

Again thanks so very much for your guidance. This is a great forum!:)

I can't thank you enough for your response. That is an excellent point regarding the space it would take up when connected.

I hate to keep bothering you guys, but I did come across a more expensive option that seems like it would be a simpler solution and easy to use. I know it's overkill, but who knows...maybe sometime I'd be transferring video.

    See what you think:

I'd be willing to spend the money if it means it would be easier...
    Thanks again!

    Hi Dencha,

Google an outfit called Dazzle. They make adaptors that plug into the USB port. One accepts inputs from VCR or Cassette with proper cable. Another does the same but also can output a signal to the recorders. They also come with good programs to do the transfer.

    Good Luck, Jim

    Hi All,
Thanks for your help with this. I finally made a decision, so I thought I'd stop by with my solution. I'll let you know if it works!
    I ordered:
    http://www.amazon.com/GSI-RCA-To-USB-Cable/dp/B003QA5LA0

and because the RCA cords on my cheapy tape deck are attached, I ordered female to female adapters:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...s&field-keywords=RCA+female+to+Female+adapter

Hopefully it will all work! I'm going to try WavePad, since I've used that before to edit music. It's very ituitive and works (IMHO) kind of like Word.

    Wish me luck!
