So this ASUS motherboard which has not given me any trouble in the last 5 years is now continuously beeping on boot up. What started it is I actually gave the computer to a nephew and didn't re-activate windows so it expired and so I decided to wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows XP, because the boys in redman didn't want to play nice even though this is a legitimate copy of Windows. I used Hiren's boot cd to wipe the hard drive and then I re-installed Windows and now on restart during the installation it comes up to a flashing cursor and continuously beeps. I thought maybe the drive went south on me so I just grabbed another drive from the shelf and reformated and installed Windows and it went fine until it gets to the part where Windows reboots the system and then tells me it's an invalid boot device or something to that effect. Just wanting to get some advice on what my next step should be. I don't have another desktop to test the drive in.

If both drives are giving you trouble... I would check the cable. Is it SATA or IDE? If it's SATA try a different port on the mobo too...

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Is this one long beep, or a never-ending stream of short beeps, or a never-ending stream of beeps of different duration?
