    My system:
    Asus P4v8x-x bios 1009.006
    P4 2.26 Northwood 533FSB 512K
PQI Turbo PC3200 2x256MB sticks with heatspreaders
    ATI 9600 pro 256MB

I have been trying to overclock and I have had some problems, I can't seem to get much higher than 10%. I had previously a p4 1.7 and was told it was bad for overclocking so I got a p4 2.26 which is supposedly better. I am still having the same problem. I cannot get passed a fsb of 148 or it will not boot windows. Before I had cheap Ultra ram at PC 2700 and when I backed it down to 266 I was able to get it to post in and boot into windows at 10%. So I replaced it with the PQI and that did not help either. I have no pci/agp lock or a ram divider. Hopefully this is not the problem. I have tried adding voltage to both ddr and cpu and it di not help. Any help would be appreciated.

That may be as high as it goes, stable.... Otherwise you could get better cooling for your comp and try it again...

More than likely having no pci/agp lock is your problem. Most video cards don't like being pushed too far out of spec. I've had some that made the computer not boot after only a 2MHz increase in the FSB.

Short of getting a new mother board is there any way around this. Because if it comes to that I will just spend the $100 and get one of the athlon xp 3000+ motherboard and cpu combos tigerdirect has.

Maybe not,but..... I know on my old AMD boards with a VIA chipset it would list the FSB along with the bus speeds (ie. 133/33 or 140/36) if yours does and you go down the list, look for a FSB with a 33MHz bus speed (166 should be). If it doesn't list the bus speeds jump to 166 anyway. Before that, give the processor a bit more voltage (1.6v should do) as 166x17 will be 2.8GHz. Your memory should run just fine since it is rated 200 MHz.

I really doubt that 3000xp and mobo combo would be a decent overclocker. The motherboard has to be bottom barrel at that price.

I have tried to overclock directly to 166 fsb and it won't boot. I only have two settings for voltage, standard and over-voltage and changing it doesn't seem to help. It doesn't list the FSB that way unfortunately. It is just annoying because they advertize that the board can handle FSB of 800 overclocked and I can't even break 150.
