Ive got an ASUS U50F (windows 7 64bit)laptop that is running VERY hot. The fan is not coming on for long enough to keep things cool. What can I use to throttle the fan up? I looked in BIOS and didnt see any cooling options.
Temps are getting into the 90's C according to speccy.

The fan only comes on once in a while (not often enough) and only stays on for a second or less. Right now the temp for the CPU (i3 330m) is at 90 C and the mobo is at 97 C !! If i cna get the fan to come on and stay on properly, I think the temps would get down to normal. What do?

Try Speedfan. It can alter fan speeds if the sensor supports it.

I also sent you a PM.

That's the same utility we discussed in PM.
It is not finding the fan. This laptop has 1 fan w/1 heat pipe. The fan is new and functional, but as i already mentioned, isnt coming on often enough or for long enough to keep temps acceptable. I am actively searching the web for answers but so far cannot find one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The heatpipe is burning hot so its pulling heat away from the chipset appropriately, the fan will not function properly however.

After Googling "U50F Overheating", it appears this is not an isolated issue.

Searching the ASUS website, there are zero fixes or BIOS updates available.

Other PC related forums and Amazon reviews have similar posts on the U50F. Aside from the SpeedFan monitoring software already suggested, there are no BIOS or driver fixes noted. I touched the heatpipe immediately after shutting down the PC; the warmth seems to be consistent from the CPU all the way over to the fan.

FYI, the PC in question is also doing something I've never seen before: Resetting the date/time randomly, sometimes forward (obviously not a dead CMOS battery). rolleyes

Sadly, I think the only workaround will be to use a very powerful fan stand to add additional cooling.

Well if your able to open the side case this is what i would Do in that issue

I would bye a Window Fan like a Dual window fan that has adjustable speeds and place it next to the open side till you are able to get a fix for it.It may look big and ugly but its better then paying for a new computer.

Speed fan does not work i have tried it
It does not seem to adjust fan speeds even if there connected on to the MOB.

As being a ASP (Asus Service Partner) tech. I have seen several issues about fans in different types of models. If you fan control is not acting right or is not even spinning. I would update your bios. I found this fix's 80% fan issues. Http://support.asus.com If this does not fix it you will want to see where your local ASP is and see about getting the fan and or heatsync replaced.
