    Hi there,

I've installed a new ASUS 802.11n Wireless LAN Card (PCIe) into my box (Win7 32-bit, i5 750, 4GB) that used to be connected for years to my Netgear 802.11g router WIRED without any problems.

I currently have my laptop and a printer connected to it. In fact, I did have a basic box wirelessly connected to the same network via a USB wireless stick.

Here is the thing, the ASUS card does detect the network signal but refuses to connect to it. I have checked the SSID and all passwords are correct.

Any tips? Its annoying the crap out of me because I've installed quite a few of devices to this network before but I can't crack this one. :cry

Let me know pls if you need more info.

    Cheers

Off hand it could be a couple of things.
    Recheck firewall settings.
Did you load another application when you installed the card? Could be a conflict with the Windows app.
    Any specific error messages?
Do you have MAC filtering enabled on your router and forgot to add the new adapter's MAC to the list?
Can you check in the Network and Sharing Center, click on the wireless connection and click on details to see what IP address is assigned? Does it have a 169.254.xxx.xxx, which would mean it is not talking to the router?

The error message was "Unable to connect".

I've tried to let the router discover the device, which failed.

Then I tried to enter the MAC address into the wireless access list and it knocked it back saying "Invalid MAC Address", which is strange because I got the address of the cmd > ipconfig /all.

With the Network and Sharing Centre bit, I don't get the option to click on Details. You might have to be a bit more specific with the steps sorry. I can only right click on the connection that then offers Properties, but that only provides some basic info like security type, encryption type, SSID, and a few options in terms of how to connect.

    I can't see anywhere that 169.254... number.

The router recognises the signals transmitted. Apart from my own it picked up the neighbours faint signals, but would not connect (to mine).

Double check your physical address is all I can say. Devil is in the details.

Start Orb > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Wireless Connection > Details Button - (These are all single left clicks.)

I re-checked MAC, but to no avail.

I've also uploaded the screen to the point where I could still follow your instructions. What would you like me to click after that?

Click on "Connect to a network".

Also, check Device Manager to make sure the adapter is installed correctly. (No ! or X in Network adapters.)
