Asus X50r Power Light Remains Green But Screen Is Blank.

Hi.

I've gotten an ASUS X50R from a relative to fix. The power light remains green but the screen is blank. The laptop is quite.

I tried this so far:
* removed battery and power cable and held in power button for 1 minute
* reseated both ram sticks
* tried each stick on their own

Can anyone help?

I tried all of them (except for the external monitor part - can't do that bit). Nothing changed.

 

You really have two possibilities; the display is bad or the system board so you really need to buy, beg, or borrow a working external monitor to find out if the laptop is even repairable.
It is a ten year old model, after all.

 

I got my hands on an ancient CRT monitor (VGA). I connected it to the laptop and the monitor power light remains orange - I know the monitor is ok. I tried the buttons on the laptop described in the link above - no change.

 

Thanks guys. I was able to retrieve the data anyway by removing the HDD and using a docking station and copied them onto my PC. I guess that old laptop is only good for spare parts now.
